LEDs for roads

Ford company known for its innovations in road safety has introduced a new concept: a system of automatic LED lighting with swivel mechanism which is able to detect and highlight large objects on the road at night.

According to the company's representatives, the concept applies rotary LED lights installed in the bumper where conventional fog lamps are usually mounted. Pedestrians or animals on the road are recognized by a built-in infrared camera, with a range of 120 meters - the distance during which the driver has enough time to react to the obstacles encountered. Once the onboard computer identifies the object, automatically activated LED lights up and illuminates it.

In addition, according to the company, special LED-lights will also highlight warning signs on the road that will help drivers navigate in the dark or in complex junctions. The system also includes a navigation system with its own memory - it is able to remember the route and during the next trip it will be able to adjust the LED lighting.

It is still unknown when the system will be mass-produced, but experts believe that modern cars will be equipped with the system in the near future.
